Welcome to Pompey, NY


Pompey is a town in southeastern Onondaga County, bordered to the north by Dewitt and Manlius, to the east by Madison County (town of Cazenovia), to the south by Fabius, and to the west by Lafayette. At just over 66 square miles, Pompey is the largest town by land mass in Onondaga County. This is a mainly rural town with farming the main occupation. Pompey is the highest inhabited spot in the county and offers quiet solitude and natural beauty.


There are few places to shop in Pompey, but there are many options nearby. For grocery shopping, Tops Friendly Markets has a store on West Seneca Street in Manlius, about 9 miles north, and another on Nelson Street in Cazenovia. The closest Wegmans supermarket is on East Genesee Street in Fayetteville, about 11 miles northwest. Another Wegmans in East Syracuse is about 15 miles north.

Recreation & Entertainment

Most of the entertainment choices in Pompey are of the outdoor type – hunting, fishing, camping, picnics and the like. The Pompey Historical Society sponsors annual events like a Strawberry Social and a Pumpkin Festival as well as special programs on a fairly regular basis. Nearby Cazenovia has several historic districts and historic sites and is the home of Cazenovia College and Cazenovia Lake, which is popular for fishing.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 20 heads east-west through Pompey and Route 91 heads north-south. The highways intersect in Pompey hamlet. Route 92 cuts across the northwest corner of town.

Pros & Cons

Open land, wide-open spaces and lovely views are the attractions in Pompey. You’re close to busier municipalities like Manlius and Syracuse. Cazenovia Lake and Cazenovia College are a short drive east.
