Welcome to Otisco, NY

Overview

Otisco is a town in southern Onondaga County, bordered to the north by the town of Onondaga, to the east by Lafayette, to the south and east by Tully, and to the south and west by Spafford. Otisco Lake, one of the smaller Finger Lakes, runs along much of the western edge of town. Otisco is one of the smallest towns in the county population-wise, with about 2,500 residents.

Essentials

Because Otisco is such a wide-open, rural town, you’ll have to travel a short way for most shopping needs. Smaller grocery stores nearby include the Lakeshore Grocery in the hamlet of Marietta (about 8 miles northwest) and the Nice n Easy Grocery and Aldi’s, both in Tully (about 9 miles southeast). For larger grocery stores, the closest Wegmans supermarket is on Onondaga Boulevard in Syracuse, about 15 miles north; the closest Tops Friendly Markets store is on Fennell Street in Skaneateles, about 16 miles northwest. For retail shopping, Tully has smaller stores like a Dollar General. For major retailers, the best bet is to head to Auburn in Cayuga County, about 23 miles northwest, where you’ll find the Finger Lakes Mall as well as stores like Walmart and BJ’s Wholesale Club. The enormous DestinyUSA shopping and entertainment complex in Syracuse is about the same distance to the north.

Recreation & Entertainment

Otisco Lake is the main attraction here. Seasonal visitors start to head here from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Fishing is big here, and there’s a public marina on the east side of the lake. Boats fill the lake for an annual fishing derby that coincides with the first day of bass season, usually in mid-June.

Transportation & Traffic

Route 80 runs north-south through the town of Otisco. Route 20 runs east-west at the northeast corner of town.

Pros & Cons

Otisco is sparsely populated with lots of wide-open space. The biggest attraction is Otisco Lake, which is extremely popular with seasonal visitors all summer.
