Overview

Lysander is a town in the northwest corner of Onondaga County, bordered to the north by Oswego County, to the east by the town of Clay, to the south by the towns of Van Buren, Elbridge and Geddes, and to the west by Cayuga County. There’s lots of water in and near Lysander; the south town line is defined by the Erie Canal/Seneca River complex. Cross Lake is on the west border of Lysander, and the Oswego, Seneca and Oneida rivers join at the east town line. Lysander includes the northern part of the village of Baldwinsville along with several hamlets.


Essentials

For grocery shopping, Baldwinsville has a Tops Friendly Markets store at 2265 Downer St. The closest Wegmans supermarkets are in Liverpool, about 14 miles southeast of Lysander. Baldwinsville also has a book store, antiques shops, a florist and stores like a bargain-outlet shop, a Walgreens pharmacy and a Family Dollar. For a wider variety of shopping, the Great Northern Mall in Clay is about 10 miles east.



Recreation & Entertainment

Baldwinsville has a lot of small shops and places to eat and drink. Paper Mill Island is a village park on an island formed between the Seneca River and the Erie Canal system. The park includes the Budweiser Amphitheater, which hosts festivals and summer concerts. The Lysander-Radisson Ice Arena has indoor skating facilities for year-round entertainment.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 370 heads east-west and is in the south part of Lysander. Route 48 is in the center of town. Route 690 is a major highway heading out of the south part of Lysander.



Pros & Cons

The town has been becoming more of a suburb of Syracuse, with new, upscale homes going up, but Lysander still maintains some rural charm. The proximity to so many bodies of water provides several outdoor entertainment options. The village of Baldwinsville is charming. Shopping is plentiful, with a mall just 10 miles east.
